Hip-hop legends De La Soul recently recorded a track called “Drawn.” This song features Little Dragon, a critically acclaimed alternative R&B band. This song is highlighted by a wonderful performance from Yukimi Nagano, Little Dragon’s lead singer. Despite Nagano’s lush and beautiful vocal performance, this is a a fairly dark and experimental video. The video was directed by J. Anders Urmacher, an up-and-coming director who may achieve much over the course of his career. “Drawn” is the latest single from De La Soul’s most recent album, “And The Anonymous Nobody.” This classic hip-hop band is undertaking a fairly extensive tour over the summer and fall of 2017.
It is gratifying to see that De La Soul has continued to produce high-quality material. Fortunately, the activities of this group have been covered by a variety of mainstream music journalists. Without doubt, it seems that De La Soul is poised to continue achieving critical and commercial acclaim for many years to come. I believe this group has certainly earned its status as a deeply influential and well-respected musical act. This group first achieved massive success in the late 1980s when they released “3 Feet High And Rising,” a seminal 80s hip-hop record.
I must admit that De La Soul initially achieved recognition for their unusual fashion sense. Unlike most of their peers in rap, this group gravitated towards tie-dye, vibrant colors and imposing hats. Many people compared this group’s image to the colorful fashions of the 1960s and the aesthetic commonly called “flower power.” Fortunately, De La Soul went on to achieve enormous critical and commercial success. Indeed, this group is one of the most lyrically advanced groups in the history of this dynamic music genre. Besides simply representing a fine example for American rap artists, De La Soul is arguably a huge influence for hip-hop artists throughout the world.
It is easy for anyone to say that Lil Wayne and T-Pain belong in the family of hip-hop royalty. Both of these stage musicians are responsible for taking hip-hop to another level. In the past, the stars expressed interest in working together on a mega project. Would a Weezy and T-Pain album tear up the charts? Fortunately for hip-hop fans, the two musical legends will release a collaborative album titled “T-Wayne”.
Lil Wayne told a MTV News reporter he felt they could create an awesome album for their die-hard fans. We noticed the two sharing incredible energy when they did “Got Money” and “Can’t Believe It”. There’s an old saying, “Better late than never.” Years have gone by, but Weezy and T-Pain will now fulfill their promise to the hip-hop world.
T-Pain released the album’s artwork on his Twitter account. At first, it seemed like a practical joke. Weezy confirmed the two will release a joint-album in the near future. Fans started to go crazy on their Twitter and Facebook accounts. T-Pain stated he was tired of seeing the lost files from 2009 sitting on his hard drive.
The collaboration between Weezy and T-Pain worked in the past. There is no reason why it will not work now. Hip-hop needs help from two of its most recognized artists. With eight vintage tracks on the way, hip-hop fans are looking forward to getting their hands on this wonderful project.
T-Pain has a solid reputation for creating and producing hot tracks. Of course, we all know that Lil Wayne is one of the best rappers from his era. To be honest, it seems like Lil Wayne hasn’t lost a step. A hot producer and beat creator teaming up with a dope M.C. normally leads to fireworks!
As of yesterday, Ice Cube has joined Interscope Records. The rap symbol has marked an arrangement with Interscope Records, joining Dr. Dre as a business powerhouse. Ice Cube will keep on operating his Lench Mob Records freely, however, future tasks will have the sponsorship of Interscope. On Friday, his last three collections were discharged through the Lench Mob system after his takeoff from Priority Records. Ice Cube’s final outreach to Interscope will be the re-arrival of his great collection Death Certificate, which initially dropped in October 1991. The refreshed adaptation is being charged as a 25th-commemoration release and will incorporate three new tracks. The rapper says that there are great things in store for both him and the company. He is currently working on his final album that will mark an end of an era for his career. Once it is finished, he has plans to move on to other venues in the music industry. Signing with Interscope Records is an important piece of the puzzle that will lead to even more accomplishments. Over the past few years, Ice Cube has gone relatively unnoticed as he dealt with personal issues and collaborations with other musicians. This has given him time to find his inner self, The rapper claimed, “these projects…great stresses yet great sources of joy”. While many people attribute Ice Cube with fast paced lyrics and a raspy voice, the musician is also able to find peace with the industry. Interscope Records will give him a background to take steps and climb even higher.
With rap music growing more popular every day — and getting better at the same time — an increase in hot album reviews that are fun to read is totally warranted. Billboard recently let out a list of the best albums released so far in the first quarter of 2017. Some of the artists include Migos, Drake, and Future, three ever-popular staples of the rap industry.
Rap album reviews like those Billboard writers released are important for listeners to consume prior to purchasing them. Sometimes, samples of songs off a new album are just not the same. We can’t say any of this about Drake’s ‘More Life’, which had absolutely zero duds on the album. The artists taken on this record include 2 Chains and Young Thug, including a full line of other popular rap artists.
Future’s recent release of HNDRXX, of which you can find another write up of here, is another staple of popular strain of rap music that blare autotune. Future has another album coming up soon, something that new true rap head is forgetting about anytime soon.
Khalid’s release of ‘American Teen’ is outstanding breezy to listen to. Khalid actually came out of nowhere this year to take the rap game by storm. ‘Location’, one of Khalid’s top songs of his short career so far, has landed this album on the map for good reason.
Migos, just like Future, is expected to put out a brand new album later this year that is expected to fly off the shelves just as fast as ‘Culture’ did. There were many hot features on this album, including Young Thug and all-star caliber rappers like him.
Take full advantage of the 2017 year of rap music as it prepares to be decorated as one of the richest rap years in recent history.
Meek Mill is ready to set the world on fire again. Taking another hit in the loss column is not on his mind. The highly talented rapper from Philadelphia is back with new hot track. Many hip-hop insiders feel that “Glow Up” will turn heads and send people to the dance floors in night clubs around the globe.
On this blazing track, Meek let’s everyone know that he is not taking any prisoners. You can tell that Meek made an earnest effort to showcase his creativity and skills with this new piece. For instance, he says “I say Lord be my savior when it comes to getting this paper.”
“Glow Up” is traveling down the path created by the three-track project titled “Meekend Mix”. “Meekend Mix” was released earlier this month. It featured Young Thug and A$AP Ferg. Both artists are talented in their own right.
Loyal fans are looking forward to getting Meek’s third studio album. Meek stated that “DC4.5” will be better than his previous studio album. It’s fair to say that he’s telling the truth. Meek has an impeccable reputation when it comes to putting out good music. His passion and dedication separates him from other artists.
Meek is now getting ready to hit the road with Yo Gotti. This exciting tour will kick off in July. Everyone is looking forward to seeing these two Hip-Hop superstars take the stage this summer. Who will steal the spot light? Well, we will have to wait and see.
It’s good to see Meek back on the grind. The proud Philadelphian is well-known for getting the crowd excited when he takes the microphone. The future looks bright for this hip-hop giant.
Drake has done 2 Chains a very big favor. Not long ago, Drake appeared in the trailer for the upcoming 2 Chains album, “Pretty Girls Like Trap Music.” This is the highly anticipated, long-awaited studio album that 2 Chains has been tweaking and perfecting for quite some time. The fourth official 2 Chains album recorded so far, “Pretty Girls Like Trap Music” is one of the most anticipated rap records of 2017. In the recently released album trailer, Drake gushed about the skills and abilities of 2 Chains. In fact, Drake claimed that 2 Chains is one of his favorite rappers. Considering the fact that Drake is a best-selling rapper, this endorsement definitely carries some cultural weight. Although I am excited about hearing the new 2 Chains album, I have mixed feelings as well. In my opinion, this rapper’s last album had some glaring flaws. Although 2 Chains is a rapper of undeniable brilliance, I felt that some of the productions on the last album lacked authenticity and grit.
Quite a few music journalists are anticipating the new 2 Chains album with baited breath. Whatever its strengths or weaknesses, this album is likely to help 2 Chains burnish his career. 2 Chains might well achieve a new level of commercial success. Although 2 Chains certainly isn’t a technical rapper, his charisma shines through when he is matched with an excellent producer. Though he’s far more than a punchline rapper, 2 Chains is a deeply witty performer who uses a lot of pithy lines. Fortunately, the new 2 Chains album features production work from the likes of Mike Dean and Pharrell.
Hopefully, 2 Chains will continue to evolve over time. I agree with the many commentators who have stated that this artist has a great deal of potential. Although I am hopeful for the future of hip-hop, far too many hip-hop artists have stalled in mid-career. By the time they reach their third or fourth albums, many rappers seem stuck in a kind of formula. Aesop Rock and Kanye West show that rappers don’t have to fall victim to this common pitfall. Time will tell if 2 Chains will do what he must to grow and evolve as an artist.
Recently, BET announced it would release two documentary shows related to rap and R&B music. “The Bobby Brown Story” will chronicle the life and career of the infamous Bobby Brown, the R&B artist who famously struggled through personal problems and a tumultuous marriage to Whitney Houston. This exciting new show will feature the talents of writer Abdul Williams and executive producer Jesse Collins. Because Bobby Brown’s life featured so many ups and down, I’m confident that BET has plenty of material to work with in its quest for true drama. Judging from BET’s previous documentary offerings, it is likely that “The Bobby Brown Story” will stay fairly close to the facts. I certainly hope that Williams and Collins do not exercise too much artistic license as they cover this sensitive and fascinating story about celebrity run amok.
The other documentary series announced by BET is entitled “Death Row Chronicles. As reported by a number of music journalists, this docu-series will follow the story of Death Row Records, a controversial hip-hop music label. Although Death Row was responsible for breaking a number of outstanding artists such as Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, this record label was dogged by scandal from its earliest days. Tupac Shakur was signed to Death Row when his life tragically ended. Reportedly, this documentary will mix music history with true-crime drama. Although you never quite know how any series will pan out, I think it is safe to say that “Death Row Chronicles” bears all of the hallmarks of a successful program. I am glad that BET is stretching its muscles and exploring new territory. Although music documentaries aren’t necessarily the most glamorous types of programs, this variety of informative programming should have a prominent place in any network’s lineup. It remains to be seen if BET will continue producing high-quality documentary shows in the future.
Fan-favorite rapper Machine Gun Kelly just dropped a new track entitled “Let You Go”. The well-received song has already accumulated a substantial number of views on YouTube, and furthermore, the track’s popularity looks to be a solid indication that MGK’s upcoming Bloom album will be a hit.
Bloom is widely expected to be MGK’s most groundbreaking album to date. Previously minimal instruments like the guitar and bass, along with some variable rapping styles and sound controls, have already made appearances in the album’s three released tracks: “Bad Things”, “At My Best”, and of course, “Let You Go”. Whether or not this new sound will translate to commercial success remains to be seen, but once again, the released singles’ popularity is a good sign.
Even better for fans is that there isn’t long left to wait before Bloom hits store shelves. The 13-song album has been recorded and perfected for over one year now, and is expected to release on 12 May 2017. Talk about an awesome way to kick the summer off!
As if the album wasn’t incredible enough, MGK will be taking his talents all over the globe on his Summer 2017 tour. Numerous states in America, as well as a number of countries in Europe are scheduled on his tour, which runs all the way through mid-July. Tickets are on sale now.
This summer is shaping up to be memorable for rap fans. Thanks for reading, and remember to enjoy the music!
Recently, Drake released a playlist called “More Life,” which features some of the most talented artists in the British music genre called grime. Without doubt, the artists Drake selected for this playlist are among the most exciting artists working in Britain today. Grime is a very interesting form of music that combines rap and hip-hop with a hyperactive, electronic sound elements. Although grime was created in London, this genre is a multi-faceted form of music that can appeal to people from many countries.
Artists featured on “More Life” include Skepta, Sampha and Giggs. Though Drake has loved urban British music for quite some time, this is Drake’s most high-profile tribute to grime so far. If anyone has the star power to get America listening to a new type of urban music, it is Drake. Without doubt, Drake is enormously influential in modern popular music. Although some feel that Drake is a bit too emotional for his own good, I think that this artist is heartfelt enough to overcome his occasional tendency to overshare. It was an interesting choice for Drake to release a playlist instead of a mixtape. By releasing “More Life” as a playlist, Drake shows that he is willing to explore new territory when it comes to branding and categorization. Although Drake’s own music follows some very familiar patterns, the artists featured in “More Life” are bound to feel incredibly fresh and original to most American listeners.
This is far from the first time that influential people have tried to introduce grime to a broader American audience. During the 1990s, many music writers felt that grime artist Tricky was set to make it big in the United States. I sincerely hope that Drake’s new release will achieve mass appeal. Although many music journalists have expressed interest in “More Love,” the public might not follow suit.
R&B singer Ciara and her husband, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, welcomed a baby girl into the world on Friday, April 28, 2017. The singer’s Instagram account officially welcomed the birth of Sienna Princess Wilson.
“Dear Sienna Princess Wilson. No matter how big the wave, we will always be your calm in the storm. We Love You,” Ciara wrote as the birth announcement, accompanied by an image of ocean waves.
Sienna Princess Wilson was born weighing 7 pounds, 13 ounces. She shares her middle name with her mother, whose full name is Ciara Princess Wilson.
The healthy little girl is the first child for the Wilsons, who married in June 2016. Ciara, 31, previously gave birth to a son, Future Zahir Wilburn, from a previous relationship with the rapper Future. Ciara’s son turns 3 in May 2017.
Earlier in April, Ciara’s Instagram photos revealed the pregnant Austin, Texas native looking fit, healthy, and fabulous in form-fitting black gowns and sky-high stiletto heels. Clearly her impending maternity did not slow the actress, model, and “Queen of Crunk&B” down.
Ciara first came to international attention in 2004 with her album “Goodies,” featuring the title track as well as hit singles “1,2 Step” featuring Missy Elliot and “Oh” featuring Ludacris. Her 2005 hit “Lose Control” won her a Grammy award for Best Short Form Music Video. Ciara’s sixth studio album, “Jackie,” was released in 2015, and in January 27 the singer announced she had signed a new recording contract with Warner Bros.
