De La Soul’s Latest Video Breaks Barriers

Hip-hop legends De La Soul recently recorded a track called “Drawn.” This song features Little Dragon, a critically acclaimed alternative R&B band. This song is highlighted by a wonderful performance from Yukimi Nagano, Little Dragon’s lead singer. Despite Nagano’s lush and beautiful vocal performance, this is a a fairly dark and experimental video. The video was directed by J. Anders Urmacher, an up-and-coming director who may achieve much over the course of his career. “Drawn” is the latest single from De La Soul’s most recent album, “And The Anonymous Nobody.” This classic hip-hop band is undertaking a fairly extensive tour over the summer and fall of 2017.

It is gratifying to see that De La Soul has continued to produce high-quality material. Fortunately, the activities of this group have been covered by a variety of mainstream music journalists. Without doubt, it seems that De La Soul is poised to continue achieving critical and commercial acclaim for many years to come. I believe this group has certainly earned its status as a deeply influential and well-respected musical act. This group first achieved massive success in the late 1980s when they released “3 Feet High And Rising,” a seminal 80s hip-hop record.

I must admit that De La Soul initially achieved recognition for their unusual fashion sense. Unlike most of their peers in rap, this group gravitated towards tie-dye, vibrant colors and imposing hats. Many people compared this group’s image to the colorful fashions of the 1960s and the aesthetic commonly called “flower power.” Fortunately, De La Soul went on to achieve enormous critical and commercial success. Indeed, this group is one of the most lyrically advanced groups in the history of this dynamic music genre. Besides simply representing a fine example for American rap artists, De La Soul is arguably a huge influence for hip-hop artists throughout the world.

Lil Wayne and T-Pain realease a collaborative album

It is easy for anyone to say that Lil Wayne and T-Pain belong in the family of hip-hop royalty. Both of these stage musicians are responsible for taking hip-hop to another level. In the past, the stars expressed interest in working together on a mega project. Would a Weezy and T-Pain album tear up the charts? Fortunately for hip-hop fans, the two musical legends will release a collaborative album titled “T-Wayne”.

Lil Wayne told a MTV News reporter he felt they could create an awesome album for their die-hard fans. We noticed the two sharing incredible energy when they did “Got Money” and “Can’t Believe It”. There’s an old saying, “Better late than never.” Years have gone by, but Weezy and T-Pain will now fulfill their promise to the hip-hop world.

T-Pain released the album’s artwork on his Twitter account. At first, it seemed like a practical joke. Weezy confirmed the two will release a joint-album in the near future. Fans started to go crazy on their Twitter and Facebook accounts. T-Pain stated he was tired of seeing the lost files from 2009 sitting on his hard drive.

The collaboration between Weezy and T-Pain worked in the past. There is no reason why it will not work now. Hip-hop needs help from two of its most recognized artists. With eight vintage tracks on the way, hip-hop fans are looking forward to getting their hands on this wonderful project.

T-Pain has a solid reputation for creating and producing hot tracks. Of course, we all know that Lil Wayne is one of the best rappers from his era. To be honest, it seems like Lil Wayne hasn’t lost a step. A hot producer and beat creator teaming up with a dope M.C. normally leads to fireworks!

So Many Hot Rap Albums out Right Now

With rap music growing more popular every day — and getting better at the same time — an increase in hot album reviews that are fun to read is totally warranted. Billboard recently let out a list of the best albums released so far in the first quarter of 2017. Some of the artists include Migos, Drake, and Future, three ever-popular staples of the rap industry.

Rap album reviews like those Billboard writers released are important for listeners to consume prior to purchasing them. Sometimes, samples of songs off a new album are just not the same. We can’t say any of this about Drake’s ‘More Life’, which had absolutely zero duds on the album. The artists taken on this record include 2 Chains and Young Thug, including a full line of other popular rap artists.

Future’s recent release of HNDRXX, of which you can find another write up of here, is another staple of popular strain of rap music that blare autotune. Future has another album coming up soon, something that new true rap head is forgetting about anytime soon.

Khalid’s release of ‘American Teen’ is outstanding breezy to listen to. Khalid actually came out of nowhere this year to take the rap game by storm. ‘Location’, one of Khalid’s top songs of his short career so far, has landed this album on the map for good reason.

Migos, just like Future, is expected to put out a brand new album later this year that is expected to fly off the shelves just as fast as ‘Culture’ did. There were many hot features on this album, including Young Thug and all-star caliber rappers like him.

Take full advantage of the 2017 year of rap music as it prepares to be decorated as one of the richest rap years in recent history.

Puff Daddy And Friends Perform A Historic Medley

Sean “Puffy” Combs recently led an all-star group of rap and R&B veterans in a performance that may resound in the annals of popular music. The group came together to musically commemorate the release of “Can’t Stop Won’t Stop: A Bad Boy Story,” a new documentary about Bad Boy Records. Led by Combs, who has performed as Puff Daddy and P. Diddy, this group of performers gathered at New York’s Beacon Theatre for the premiere of the new documentary. After the film’s first screening was complete, the performers stormed the stage with great vibrancy and panache. The expertly group performed a medley of Bad Boy hits. Faith Evans and Carl Thomas also performed in this medley, which clearly have excited the music-loving crowd gathered for the event.

Despite the best efforts of Sean Combs, Bad Boy Records really hasn’t had much commercial success as of late. Still, there’s no denying the huge role this record label played between 1993 and 2003. As the head of this influential record label, Combs has had a large influence on the development of urban music. Although Combs has never achieved critical acclaim for his own music releases, he has produced and overseen many records that have awed the critics. Throughout the world, people often listen to Bad Boy releases during the important moments that define their lives.

More than most would-be music moguls, Sean Combs has capitalized on the power of video entertainment and reality television. Whatever one thinks about the artistic merits of Puff Daddy’s Beacon Theatre performance, there’s no doubt that this performance was a major event in modern rap culture. Indeed, most mainstream music publications have reported on this momentous film screening and concert. I hope that the new Bad Boy documentary will give Puff Daddy the impetus to rejuvenate his music career. Although Puff Daddy’s lyrics aren’t exactly literary, he deserves recognition for his contemporary musical sensibility.

BET Announces Two New Urban-Themed Documentaries

Recently, BET announced it would release two documentary shows related to rap and R&B music. “The Bobby Brown Story” will chronicle the life and career of the infamous Bobby Brown, the R&B artist who famously struggled through personal problems and a tumultuous marriage to Whitney Houston. This exciting new show will feature the talents of writer Abdul Williams and executive producer Jesse Collins. Because Bobby Brown’s life featured so many ups and down, I’m confident that BET has plenty of material to work with in its quest for true drama. Judging from BET’s previous documentary offerings, it is likely that “The Bobby Brown Story” will stay fairly close to the facts. I certainly hope that Williams and Collins do not exercise too much artistic license as they cover this sensitive and fascinating story about celebrity run amok.

The other documentary series announced by BET is entitled “Death Row Chronicles. As reported by a number of music journalists, this docu-series will follow the story of Death Row Records, a controversial hip-hop music label. Although Death Row was responsible for breaking a number of outstanding artists such as Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, this record label was dogged by scandal from its earliest days. Tupac Shakur was signed to Death Row when his life tragically ended. Reportedly, this documentary will mix music history with true-crime drama. Although you never quite know how any series will pan out, I think it is safe to say that “Death Row Chronicles” bears all of the hallmarks of a successful program. I am glad that BET is stretching its muscles and exploring new territory. Although music documentaries aren’t necessarily the most glamorous types of programs, this variety of informative programming should have a prominent place in any network’s lineup. It remains to be seen if BET will continue producing high-quality documentary shows in the future.

Snoop Dogg And Migos Will Perform At The Hard Summer Music Festival

Snoop Dogg, Ty Dolla Sign and Migos are three of the rap artists that will perform at the Hard Summer Music Festival in August 2017. Other rap and R&B artists slated to perform include Skepta and Charli XCX. Mike Will Made It will also perform in a triumphant debut festival appearance. I believe this upcoming festival will probably be quite interesting and entertaining. Although some of the rap artists announced for this show will likely disappoint, most of these artists will probably perform in ways that are exciting and amazing. Hip-hop legends Mobb Deep will perform, which will probably make fans of old-school hip-hop fans incredibly gratified. Although the Hard Summer Musical Festival isn’t as prominent as a number of other summer festivals, there’s no question that this festival has earned its place of prominence in the hip-hop music scene. Notably, this festival brings together hip-hop artists with electronic artists and DJs.

Since the event started in 2007, Hard Summer Music Festival has impressed a wide variety of music critics. Music journalists have reported on the upcoming festival with deep interest. I hope that the organizers of this festival will learn an important lesson from the failure of the Fyre festival, which famously failed due to a lack of preparation and logistical support. Without expert planning, I don’t think it is possible for any organization to host a successful music festival. Fortunately, it seems that the organizers of the Hard Summer Music Festival know exactly what they are doing. Although nothing is ever certain in life, I feel confident that people who attend this festival will enjoy themselves thoroughly. The inspiring list of participating artists shows that the festival’s organizers truly know what they are doing. This is an excellent time for people to attend festivals like this and thoroughly enjoy their lives.

Machine Gun Kelly Drops New Single, “Let You Go”

Fan-favorite rapper Machine Gun Kelly just dropped a new track entitled “Let You Go”. The well-received song has already accumulated a substantial number of views on YouTube, and furthermore, the track’s popularity looks to be a solid indication that MGK’s upcoming Bloom album will be a hit.

Bloom is widely expected to be MGK’s most groundbreaking album to date. Previously minimal instruments like the guitar and bass, along with some variable rapping styles and sound controls, have already made appearances in the album’s three released tracks: “Bad Things”, “At My Best”, and of course, “Let You Go”. Whether or not this new sound will translate to commercial success remains to be seen, but once again, the released singles’ popularity is a good sign.

Even better for fans is that there isn’t long left to wait before Bloom hits store shelves. The 13-song album has been recorded and perfected for over one year now, and is expected to release on 12 May 2017. Talk about an awesome way to kick the summer off!

As if the album wasn’t incredible enough, MGK will be taking his talents all over the globe on his Summer 2017 tour. Numerous states in America, as well as a number of countries in Europe are scheduled on his tour, which runs all the way through mid-July. Tickets are on sale now.

This summer is shaping up to be memorable for rap fans. Thanks for reading, and remember to enjoy the music!

Drake’s New Playlist Aims To Promote The Grime Genre

Recently, Drake released a playlist called “More Life,” which features some of the most talented artists in the British music genre called grime. Without doubt, the artists Drake selected for this playlist are among the most exciting artists working in Britain today. Grime is a very interesting form of music that combines rap and hip-hop with a hyperactive, electronic sound elements. Although grime was created in London, this genre is a multi-faceted form of music that can appeal to people from many countries.

Artists featured on “More Life” include Skepta, Sampha and Giggs. Though Drake has loved urban British music for quite some time, this is Drake’s most high-profile tribute to grime so far. If anyone has the star power to get America listening to a new type of urban music, it is Drake. Without doubt, Drake is enormously influential in modern popular music. Although some feel that Drake is a bit too emotional for his own good, I think that this artist is heartfelt enough to overcome his occasional tendency to overshare. It was an interesting choice for Drake to release a playlist instead of a mixtape. By releasing “More Life” as a playlist, Drake shows that he is willing to explore new territory when it comes to branding and categorization. Although Drake’s own music follows some very familiar patterns, the artists featured in “More Life” are bound to feel incredibly fresh and original to most American listeners.

This is far from the first time that influential people have tried to introduce grime to a broader American audience. During the 1990s, many music writers felt that grime artist Tricky was set to make it big in the United States. I sincerely hope that Drake’s new release will achieve mass appeal. Although many music journalists have expressed interest in “More Love,” the public might not follow suit.

T-Pain is Coming

T-Pain’s newest hit, ‘See Me Comin’, is an aggressive song that reminds listeners of the ups and downs of his career. His lyrics reminisce about his youthful times and how he has transitioned to the top of the hip hop game. Accompanied by a melodic beat and hard hitting drums, T-Pain cements his legacy as an auto tune genius with this piece. ‘See Me Comin’ has been commended by critics for a steady beat and promising longevity. When it comes to the hottest hits, T-Pain has shown again and again that he has mastered this genre of music. This song is part of his latest album, Stoicville: The Phoenix, that was teased in early 2015. In recent interviews, the artist has said that the delay was due to tour dates and VIP events. Now that he has resumed his regular schedule, the album should showcase a wide variety of styles and featured artists. On Billboard, ‘See Me Comin’ has surged to the top 100 and will likely remain there for a while. Similar singles have thrived during the spring months of music where fast paced songs are the most popular. Although T-Pain has shifted his sound over the years, the fundamental tones are still there. Listeners will be pleased to hear a raspy voice during intermissions and a smooth call during the chorus. Overall, ‘See Me Comin’ has been a tremendous success that is supported by a music video. We can visualize the difficulties of T-Pain’s life and how he works to provide a life for the future.

Big TLC Fan? New Music Is Headed Your Way

If you’re a fan of nineties R&B girl groups, T.L.C. is likely at the top of your list. They had a string of major hits and enjoyed a great deal of success for several years. However, since that time, they have largely stayed out of the limelight. This has left behind a huge void that the most devoted T.L.C. fans have surely felt.

That’s why when news broke that T.L.C. was hitting the studio again to record an album, so many people were chomping at the bit to get a listen to it. Although there have been delays and the record seems to have taken much longer than expected to complete, a Rolling Stone magazine article wrote that the group announced that the album will drop on June 30,2017.

This is incredible news, especially in light of the fact that the group hasn’t released new music since 2003. Even with such a large absence, fans of the group showed their loyalty by donating a whopping $430,000 dollars to a Kicklighter funding campaign to come up with the money necessary to fund a new album. The duo’s manager says that they’ve been working extra hard to try to meet the stated drop date and that this will be their last and final album.

I don’t know about you, but I plan to do whatever it takes to get this album. Whether it means standing in line at the music store, camping out overnight outside of a big box retailer or even making multiple calls to radio stations in hopes of scoring an autographed copy. T.L.C. represents everything so many people love about the nineties and this album is sure to bring back a bit of nostalgia from that time. Much love and success to the group and hopefully this album will be one for the history books.
