Hip hop artist Missy Elliott is set to be honored at a tribute for this year’s VH1 Hip Hop Honors. Pharrell Williams and Timbaland are a couple of the artists who will be taking part in this.
Among other noted stars who will be participating in the Hip Hop Honors include Nelly Furtado, Keyshia Cole, Jazmine Sullivan, Remy Ma and Fantasia. The event will air live on July 11th from the New York Lincoln Center. Eve is also going to host the show, which will be taking place for the first time in six years, all while tributes to other artists like Salt-N-Pepa and Lil’ Kim will be getting similar tributes of their own.
Queen Latifah is also set to be honored with her own tribute as well, with artists such as Common, Naughty By Nature, Da Brat and Rah Digga being featured, honoring all of the first ladies of hip hop and rap. Latifah is even going to take the stage herself and perform the 1989 hit “Ladies First” with Monie Love on-stage with her. Interestingly enough that was the same year that Latifah released her own debut album called “All Hail the Queens.”
2010 was the last time a VH1 Hip Hop Honors live show took place but that time it was paying tribute to artists representing the “Dirty South,” with many of the big names such as the 2 Live Crew, Jermaine Dupri, Timbaland and Master P.
