Migos has seen nothing but a steady rise to hiphop success since their commercial debut single “Versace” was released in 2013. A recent article in Rolling Stone does well the describe just how successful the three Georgia rappers have become over the past 5 years.
The Migos started in 2009 and was formed by the current three members of the group: Quavo, Takeoff, and Offset. The three men grew up together in a suburban town in Gwennitt County, about an hour north of Atlanta. They had limited success in the first few years as a group, until their breakout single Versace was released in 2013. Since then they have made millions with their transition into the mainstream and in 2017 won the BET award for best group, and best collaboration. Today they live in a mega-mansion in suburban Atlanta with “3 Bentleys sitting in the driveway, and millions of dollars worth of jewelry lying around the house”.
The Migos have been called one of the best hip-hop groups of the past few years by many prominent music critics. They have become cultural icons. They helped create the DAB, a simple dance move that has since become a cultural sensation. Migos latest album is Culture II and has already garnered critical acclaim. It features hit artists such like Drake, Gucci Mane, Ty Dolla $ign, 21 Savage, and Big Sean. They were nominated for “Best Rap Performance” for “Bad and Boujee” (featuring Lil Uzi Vert), and “Best Rap Album” for “Culture” at the 2018 Grammy awards.
