Migos and Drake: Coming to a City Near You

Hip hop fans will never turn down a golden opportunity to see their favorite artists take the stage. Fortunately, fans will get a chance to see two of the hottest hip hop acts in the game today. Drake is scheduled to go on tour with Migos. This dazzling showcase begins July 26 in Salt Lake City.

It may sound strange, but Drake had a rocky relationship with Migos in the past. Their relationship started back in 2013 when Drake made a cameo appearance on Versace. His contribution to the project helped the Migos get off to a great start with their career. Rarely do you see an international hip hop icon take a chance on an upstart rap group. In this instance, it seems like Drake’s hospitality has helped Migos hit pay dirt.

Versace became a huge hit and it helped Migos become the new players on the scene. Things took a turn for the worst one of the members accused Drake of stealing their unique style of flowing on the microphone. Things settled down when both parties realized that it was a big misunderstanding. This is great news since hip hop does not need more negative publicity.

Drake and Migos have a big reputation for heating things up when they touch the microphone. This is the main reason why many hip hop critics and insiders are looking forward to the upcoming tour. Some feel that this tour is long overdue. Hip hop needs more talented artists to work together.

Tickets go on sale on May 15. The grand finale for the tour will take place in Atlanta on November 17. It’s vital for die-hard hip hop fans to get their tickets early. With two head-banging acts performing on one stage, it’s logical to assume that tickets are bound to go fast.

Drakes Drops “Nice For What” and Continues to Expand Singles Catalog

There are a lot of players in the rap game, but it appears that this is an industry that is cruel to those who stay away too long. Kanye West is someone that may never be able to reclaim the thrown because he has been gone way too long. People like Lil Wayne have been away so long that he has actually become irrelevant when it comes to rap.

What new artists like Drake are realizing is that it is not about the album so much anymore. Drake is someone that has mastered the system because he knows that it is much more about the singles that you are releasing. The recent release of his single “Nice for What” that captures a Lauryn Hill sample from “Ex-Factor” is a perfect example of his expedient timing when it comes to releasing hit singles.

Drake is someone that realizes that it is more important to put a single out and get the radio play that draws a mainstream crowd to your music. There is not necessarily a need to put out a great album because everything is streaming now. Many stores have even stopped carrying compact discs. This means that it makes no sense to put so much money into creating a full-length album when people are only creating your own playlists and grabbing singles from artists.

Drake as managed to also add more fame to his name by appearing on tracks from other artists. He looks at this as a launch pad to get people to stay familiar with his music. Over the years he has appears on tracks with 2 Chainz, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Kendrick Lamar, Beyonce, Jhene Aiko and Kanye West. This is how Drake keeps his name hot even when he is not releasing a full-length album.

How Drake Commanded Attention in America

Even when Drake is absence he still knows how to come back into the rap game and make a very strong impression. This is what people have noticed when they take a serious look at the career that he has had so far. Drake seems to be someone that does no wrong when it comes to his selection of singles that he releases. It is obvious that he holds the key to content in America when it comes to rap, but many of his American fans may wonder how he fares in Canada.

The reality is that Drake is just as popular in Canada as he is in America. There have been other Canadian rappers that have tried to emulate his style and do what he does, but there is not anyone else out of Canada that has had the mainstream success that Drake has had when it comes to rap. It appears that he is someone that knows a lot about the culture in America because his dad lived in the south.

His ability to live in Canada during part of the year and Tennessee during the summer allowed him to gain a lot of experience about what was going on in hip-hop. Today Drake seems to be someone that can put out one hit after another without the bat of an eye. His latest single “Nice for What” is climbing up the charts, but this would not be the first time that Drake has been able to get something that would make people dance for the summer. From songs like “Hotline Bling” to the infectious “One Dance” it has become obvious that Drake is someone that knows how to create a catchy anthems at the right time. He has the ability to bounce back and forth into the spotlight.

Drake to Release New Single

Drake revealed to fans on Thursday that he plans to release a new single on April 6. The Canadian artist took to the stage at Toronto’s Rebel nightclub to announce the new song and confirm that he will be touring in the summer. His surprise appearance at the Majid Jordan concert caught fans off-guard, but they were pleased to hear that the rap entrepreneur is working on his next full-length album.

Drake is currently dominating the hip-hop and R&B charts with his latest single “God’s Plan”. Released in January the song has topped Billboard’s hot rap songs since it dropped. Drake is currently occupying the first two spots on Billboard’s hot rap songs chart with “God’s Plan” and “Look Alive”, a collaboration with Memphis rapper BlocBoy JB.

In February, Drake released a music video for “God’s Plan” showing him driving around Miami, giving groceries to local residents and donating money to local scholarship funds, the Miami Fire Department and a women’s shelter. The video, which includes scenes of the Toronto rapper handing stacks of cash to stunned fans, quickly became a viral hit, earning over 300 million views.

The name of Drake’s fifth studio album has not been released, although a track called “Pistols” leaked online in December. A co-production of Drake and record producer 40, “Pistols” was posted without permission on SoundCloud and is rumored to be a song from his upcoming album. Until Thursday, Drake has remained tight-lipped about his new album, only acknowledging that he has been working on new material in a cryptic Instagram post on April 2. With his announcement of new tour dates scheduled for this summer, there is speculation that the album will drop in the next few months.

Drake’s Musical Success Doesn’t Seem to Carry

There is no doubt that Aubrey Graham, also known as “champagnepapi” and Drake, is one of the biggest rappers in the game. His recent video for the hit song “God’s Plan” made fans wild with admiration, and even his most casual Instagram posts rack up tons of likes on the platform. However, according to recent reports, this success has not translated to his restaurant venture. The project was a labor of love, with everyone from chef Antonio Park and Drake’s security expert “Chubbs” in the mix. However, even the best intentions sometimes don’t pan out.

The eatery, which is affectionately named Pick 6ix, has been suffering from bad reviews. Food critic Jason Chow critiqued the establishment’s service, as well as the food, which he believed was not up to par. From the coat check to the rest of the restaurant, Chow notes that it seems as though staff members can’t be bothered to associate with patrons who are not super wealthy or not in Drake’s entourage. Chow also noted that the atmosphere of the place seemed more similar to a nightclub than that of an actual restaurant. However, Chow was not the only critic who believed that perhaps Graham should stick to his day job.

Restaurant critic Amy Pataki commented on the meals that she ate, claiming that two out of three were disasters. One of these dishes, a spaghetti bolognese with lobster tail, is no longer listed on the menu. Another dish she detested was the fried dumplings, which she regarded as oversalted. However, it should be noted that it’s not just food critics who are taking Pick 6ix to task. It’s also diners, who have bestowed an unfortunate rating upon the establishment. With 28 mostly unhappy customers weighing in on the fare, Drake’s future in restaurants seems shaky.

Drake’s New Playlist Aims To Promote The Grime Genre

Recently, Drake released a playlist called “More Life,” which features some of the most talented artists in the British music genre called grime. Without doubt, the artists Drake selected for this playlist are among the most exciting artists working in Britain today. Grime is a very interesting form of music that combines rap and hip-hop with a hyperactive, electronic sound elements. Although grime was created in London, this genre is a multi-faceted form of music that can appeal to people from many countries.

Artists featured on “More Life” include Skepta, Sampha and Giggs. Though Drake has loved urban British music for quite some time, this is Drake’s most high-profile tribute to grime so far. If anyone has the star power to get America listening to a new type of urban music, it is Drake. Without doubt, Drake is enormously influential in modern popular music. Although some feel that Drake is a bit too emotional for his own good, I think that this artist is heartfelt enough to overcome his occasional tendency to overshare. It was an interesting choice for Drake to release a playlist instead of a mixtape. By releasing “More Life” as a playlist, Drake shows that he is willing to explore new territory when it comes to branding and categorization. Although Drake’s own music follows some very familiar patterns, the artists featured in “More Life” are bound to feel incredibly fresh and original to most American listeners.

This is far from the first time that influential people have tried to introduce grime to a broader American audience. During the 1990s, many music writers felt that grime artist Tricky was set to make it big in the United States. I sincerely hope that Drake’s new release will achieve mass appeal. Although many music journalists have expressed interest in “More Love,” the public might not follow suit.

Drake takes the Throne

2016 was a really big year for artist Drake. It seemed like you couldn’t go more than a few days without hearing some news about Drake’s latest record. The record, which goes by the title of Oh My Klub, has produced some very exciting news for Drake. Over the past year, Drake has broken or tied roughly TEN RECORDS! In a single year, that’s an amazing amount in and of itself. Of course, no one can really question Drake’s relevance lately. After all, the man has been on the playing field since his acting days back during Degrassi. But even after 2016 was over, he couldn’t help but slap on one more record to the list, just to really stand out from the crowd, and this time he had a little help.

The news was just released that Drake and Future’s latest tour, Summer Sixteen grossed $84.3 Million dollars last year! While this is impressive in and of itself, what makes it more impressive was that it managed to take the top slot and become the highest grossing Hip-Hop tour of the year. It’s previous holders Jay-Z and Kanye West, managed to score about $75 Million with their tour, Watch the Throne, which is no small feat, even for two of the biggest names in the business. In light of this, it seems that Drake really took the top spot as 2016’s biggest artist in the genre.

Of course, this is just the latest record to join the others he took last year. Alongside the highest grossing tour, he tied with 50 Cent on his record of heading both the Billboard 100 AND 200 boards at once. He also beat out Justin Bieber as the most streamed artist EVER on Spotify, and Michael Jackson’s record for the most nominations at the AMA awards as well, by about 2 Million Nominations! Well done Drake, people are looking forward to seeing what 2017 brings you.

I’m Glad Rihanna And Drake Were Nominated For Brit Awards

Rihanna and Drake were recently announced as nominees for the 2016 Brit Awards. This prestigious music award is essentially the British version of the Grammy Awards. Simply achieving a nomination of this type is a great honor. This is one more indication that American rap and R&B artists have broad recognition and support in the United Kingdom. Decade after decade, the British public remains fully receptive to African-American musical forms. Of course, the transatlantic exchange of musical ideas operates in both directions. This is aptly demonstrated by “Black Beatles,” a recent hit by the American act Rae Sremmurd and rapper Gucci Mane.

It remains to be seen whether Drake or Rihanna will perform live at the Brit Awards ceremony, which is broadcast live on British television. If either one of these singers does choose to perform at the ceremony, this should provide an appreciable boost to the ceremony’s ratings this year. Other artists nominated for the 2016 Brit Awards include Skepta, David Bowie and Kano. Drake has been nominated in the category of “Best International Male Solo Artist.” Drake’s competitors in this category include Bruno Mars and the Weeknd. All in all, Drake should face very stiff competition here. Compared to Drake, Rihanna has a far longer history of commercial success in the United Kingdom. Every year, millions of British fans purchase Rihanna’s songs, albums and affiliated merchandise. Though the U.K. is far smaller than the United States in terms of population, there can be little doubt that Rihanna’s British fans contribute much to her overall commercial success.

Drake Continues to Be Drake with His New Music Video, “Sneakin'”

Drake and 21 Savage are holding onto Halloween for just a tad longer with their new music video, Sneakin’. Reminiscent of horror faux documentaries, the video contains shoddy quality that was anything but unintentional. Elsewhere in the video, Drake depicts why he is such a controversial rapper to most.

Sporting his new Ferrari that was actually a birthday present from 21 Savage this past year, Drake makes it a point to flash what the industry has given him, including furs, gold, and diamonds. Though plenty of fans admire items such as these and believe that Drake has earned them, others who have always been on the fence when it comes to the artist are slowly but surely losing more respect for him simply because they believe his overall talent is slipping. The video also shows Drake in a pool with multiple females who are demonstrating their dance moves.

Of course, the music itself is not necessarily terrible, but the true emphasis here is placed on the video, a trend that has swept the industry for the past decade. Essentially, artists are attempting to hold their videos to a more meaningful accord. Drake and 21 Savage certainly tried with this one, but viewers cannot depict the message being demonstrated with this one. Perhaps it is just another attempt at Drake conveying that he does not care what anybody thinks of him.
