Drake’s New Playlist Aims To Promote The Grime Genre

Recently, Drake released a playlist called “More Life,” which features some of the most talented artists in the British music genre called grime. Without doubt, the artists Drake selected for this playlist are among the most exciting artists working in Britain today. Grime is a very interesting form of music that combines rap and hip-hop with a hyperactive, electronic sound elements. Although grime was created in London, this genre is a multi-faceted form of music that can appeal to people from many countries.

Artists featured on “More Life” include Skepta, Sampha and Giggs. Though Drake has loved urban British music for quite some time, this is Drake’s most high-profile tribute to grime so far. If anyone has the star power to get America listening to a new type of urban music, it is Drake. Without doubt, Drake is enormously influential in modern popular music. Although some feel that Drake is a bit too emotional for his own good, I think that this artist is heartfelt enough to overcome his occasional tendency to overshare. It was an interesting choice for Drake to release a playlist instead of a mixtape. By releasing “More Life” as a playlist, Drake shows that he is willing to explore new territory when it comes to branding and categorization. Although Drake’s own music follows some very familiar patterns, the artists featured in “More Life” are bound to feel incredibly fresh and original to most American listeners.

This is far from the first time that influential people have tried to introduce grime to a broader American audience. During the 1990s, many music writers felt that grime artist Tricky was set to make it big in the United States. I sincerely hope that Drake’s new release will achieve mass appeal. Although many music journalists have expressed interest in “More Love,” the public might not follow suit.

Drake takes the Throne

2016 was a really big year for artist Drake. It seemed like you couldn’t go more than a few days without hearing some news about Drake’s latest record. The record, which goes by the title of Oh My Klub, has produced some very exciting news for Drake. Over the past year, Drake has broken or tied roughly TEN RECORDS! In a single year, that’s an amazing amount in and of itself. Of course, no one can really question Drake’s relevance lately. After all, the man has been on the playing field since his acting days back during Degrassi. But even after 2016 was over, he couldn’t help but slap on one more record to the list, just to really stand out from the crowd, and this time he had a little help.

The news was just released that Drake and Future’s latest tour, Summer Sixteen grossed $84.3 Million dollars last year! While this is impressive in and of itself, what makes it more impressive was that it managed to take the top slot and become the highest grossing Hip-Hop tour of the year. It’s previous holders Jay-Z and Kanye West, managed to score about $75 Million with their tour, Watch the Throne, which is no small feat, even for two of the biggest names in the business. In light of this, it seems that Drake really took the top spot as 2016’s biggest artist in the genre.

Of course, this is just the latest record to join the others he took last year. Alongside the highest grossing tour, he tied with 50 Cent on his record of heading both the Billboard 100 AND 200 boards at once. He also beat out Justin Bieber as the most streamed artist EVER on Spotify, and Michael Jackson’s record for the most nominations at the AMA awards as well, by about 2 Million Nominations! Well done Drake, people are looking forward to seeing what 2017 brings you.

I’m Glad Rihanna And Drake Were Nominated For Brit Awards

Rihanna and Drake were recently announced as nominees for the 2016 Brit Awards. This prestigious music award is essentially the British version of the Grammy Awards. Simply achieving a nomination of this type is a great honor. This is one more indication that American rap and R&B artists have broad recognition and support in the United Kingdom. Decade after decade, the British public remains fully receptive to African-American musical forms. Of course, the transatlantic exchange of musical ideas operates in both directions. This is aptly demonstrated by “Black Beatles,” a recent hit by the American act Rae Sremmurd and rapper Gucci Mane.

It remains to be seen whether Drake or Rihanna will perform live at the Brit Awards ceremony, which is broadcast live on British television. If either one of these singers does choose to perform at the ceremony, this should provide an appreciable boost to the ceremony’s ratings this year. Other artists nominated for the 2016 Brit Awards include Skepta, David Bowie and Kano. Drake has been nominated in the category of “Best International Male Solo Artist.” Drake’s competitors in this category include Bruno Mars and the Weeknd. All in all, Drake should face very stiff competition here. Compared to Drake, Rihanna has a far longer history of commercial success in the United Kingdom. Every year, millions of British fans purchase Rihanna’s songs, albums and affiliated merchandise. Though the U.K. is far smaller than the United States in terms of population, there can be little doubt that Rihanna’s British fans contribute much to her overall commercial success.

Drake Continues to Be Drake with His New Music Video, “Sneakin'”

Drake and 21 Savage are holding onto Halloween for just a tad longer with their new music video, Sneakin’. Reminiscent of horror faux documentaries, the video contains shoddy quality that was anything but unintentional. Elsewhere in the video, Drake depicts why he is such a controversial rapper to most.

Sporting his new Ferrari that was actually a birthday present from 21 Savage this past year, Drake makes it a point to flash what the industry has given him, including furs, gold, and diamonds. Though plenty of fans admire items such as these and believe that Drake has earned them, others who have always been on the fence when it comes to the artist are slowly but surely losing more respect for him simply because they believe his overall talent is slipping. The video also shows Drake in a pool with multiple females who are demonstrating their dance moves.

Of course, the music itself is not necessarily terrible, but the true emphasis here is placed on the video, a trend that has swept the industry for the past decade. Essentially, artists are attempting to hold their videos to a more meaningful accord. Drake and 21 Savage certainly tried with this one, but viewers cannot depict the message being demonstrated with this one. Perhaps it is just another attempt at Drake conveying that he does not care what anybody thinks of him.

Drake Secures His Place in Music with Thirteen Stellar Nominations

The music industry is huge and few recognize the extensive hours and work that is put into producing worthy tunes. Though it seems the list of award shows is endless when it comes to giving artists the credit that they deserve for their songs and general talent, it is important to note that these shows happen for a reason, even though you may get fairly annoyed by seeing them constantly.

Musical talent is to be found around the world, but the United States is noted for having a very diverse music scene. Even the artists who produce music within the same genre are immensely different and it is essential to note that from time to time. With the MTV Video Music Awards and The Grammys out of the way, it is time to prepare for the American Music Awards and the artists who have broken records, thus far, including Drake.

Now there is no denying that Drake radiates talent through every shout in the microphone, but few recognize just how noted he is in the industry. Currently, the rapper is up for thirteen awards, which is a record-breaking victory. The only other artist to have even come close was Michael Jackson with eleven awards in 1984. With potential accolades such as favorite artist, favorite album, favorite song, collaboration of the year, and artist of the year, Drake has demonstrated that he is a lyrical God and will not let that fact subside anytime soon.

As the award show approaches, other names in the industry that have worked with Drake or who have shared friendships with him are ready to cheer him on, including Rihanna, Future, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Adele, Kanye West, and Ariana Grande. Sure to be a legendary night, fans of the industry and Drake will have plenty to talk about at work and school the next day.

Kind of Hate Them, Kind of Love Them: Drake and His Crew Release a New Video

Since the establishment of rap, the artists in the industry have been affiliated with luxury cars, money, fancy alcohol, and even not having a care in the world. Of course, the industry is infamous for the musicians rarely getting along and having the occasional viral battle for online viewers to partake in as well. Embodying both the carefree attitude and acknowledging that they are not very liked by fellow musicians are Drake, YG, Kamaiyah, and TY Dolla $ign with their new song entitled, “Why You Always Hatin’?”

As each artist takes turn asking the question as to why anybody could possibly hate them, they are seen riding through the neighborhood in YG’s drop-top Lamborghini. With YG at the wheel, Ty Dolla $ign in the passenger seat looking less than amused by his haters, and the infamous hater himself, Drake, riding in the middle hanging outside of the car, the video is more than amusing and kind of makes people want to jump on the bandwagon of hating these individuals purely out of jealousy. Of course, Miss Kamaiyah is drinking fine champagne while getting her feet rubbed by a bunch of men, too. With such bragging taking place, it is hard to disprove that this team of talented individuals could possibly have haters.

Though YG, TY Dolla $ign, and Kamaiyah rarely partake in any feuds, Drake is infamous for being in the middle of some of the greatest rap battles of all time. Though the video is humorous yet slightly irritating to fans, it is more so a means to show their personal haters that they really do not care what anybody thinks or has to say about them. With such success shared between the four artists, there is no excusing their rights to boast from time to time, but those who follow the industry understand that this video will only open the door to more rivalries. Enjoy your ride because your careers might get a bit more rocky from this point forward! Then again, we could all just be hatin’.

More Drake News, but It Is Positive This Time

It seems that nobody can go a day without hearing some form of Drake news. From rap battles with Meek Mill to his announcement of making an album with the iconic Kanye West, the guy is clearly busy continuously making sure that everybody knows who Aubrey “Drake” Graham is. Though unfortunate to some, not all Drake news is dramatic and his recent disclosure is more so exciting than it is hilarious.

Surely the artist is no stranger to continuously topping the charts with tracks and albums and his current mixtape, Views, has yet to have anything significant attached to it in terms of music videos. Hotline Bling had a video, but most Drake fans consider that to be a mistake best left unspoken; One Time reportedly has a video putting visuals to its funky, hip swinging beat, but nobody has seen that one yet. The rapper is not necessarily known for hype like some of his peers, so the lack of visuals is totally worrying his zealous fans and those who simply follow his life. On August 15, 2016, he was able to ease some concerned minds by making them simply eager.

On that day, Drake uploaded screenshots to Instagram that were captioned, “Please Forgive Me, Featuring Music from Views. COMING SOON.” Essentially stating that he has been working on a short film, the rapper made millions of people incredibly happy, especially since they have seen what the artist can do in fifteen minutes. In February 2015, his short film, “Jungle,” made waves within the industry and further demonstrated the talent of this zany individual.

Drake definitely marches to the beat of his own drum and loves the spotlight, so it is safe to say that his upcoming short film will further increase his popularity and validate why his career has been so successful. Not many artists unceasingly reside in the top spots on all of the charts, so it is important for Drake to remain relevant and to push his talents to the limits as often as he can.

The Budden/Drake Feud Continues, At No Fault of Drake’s

We live in the era of memes; we live in the era when beef among rappers is more easily followed due to the influence of social media. Often, combinations of the two realities surface, and they are fairly hilarious. That is, of course, until somebody potentially gets hurt or goes too far.

The last weekend of July was a fairly exciting time for rap artist, Joe Budden–until some Drake fans decided to let him know just which team that they support in the industry. Joe Budden is the furthest thing from a coward, though, and decided that he would not take this act sitting down–literally. In fact, he began chasing after the car, screaming some choice words the entire time. His face was red with anger and a bit of exhaustion from his taxing run, but it subsided when he decided that this was a fight he had won. That feeling quickly subsided when he went on social media, though.

Naturally, dozens of memes surfaced that pictured the artist running with a vengeance; witty expressions accented each one. While this form of cyberbullying might make some people crawl under a rock and not show their face for a while, Budden has already demonstrated that he will not take these actions with a grain of salt.

“Sometimes you gotta show the kids you really ran with the rock,” rapped Budden in a song he immediately produced following the incident. Even the biggest Drake fans enjoyed the tune, but they are more so excited to hear Drake’s response.

Drake Shatters Records with New Album

Everybody knows that Drake makes popular songs, but few recognize his profound talent as an artist. With the exception of a brief week, Drake’s songs and albums usually reside in the number one spots on the Billboard 100 and 200 lists for at least ten weeks; his new album, “Views,” recently launched him into a stardom that he probably never believed possible, either.

The album is only one of ten that has ever been in the spot for the past twenty years and joins big names, such as Adele, Taylor Swift, and even those who composed the Titanic soundtrack. The only difference, though, is that Drake is the only rapper to make that list. If that is not a great accolade that speaks volumes about Drake’s career, then what really is?

With over 92,000 copies sold in just one week, “Views,” is estimated to continuously make headlines for months to come, and to even surpass Adele’s reigning accomplishment of having the most popular album of 2016. Certainly no offense to Queen Adele, but there is no denying that Drake is just as deserving of this major cognizance. How does he do it, though? Most artists have a dry spell from time to time, so why not him?

Regular interviews with the artist and those who have worked with him discuss just how much fun Drake has in the studio, and he refuses to allow negative energy to travel with him when he is about to record. Essentially, the great just enjoys to have fun and be himself, and simply allows the stellar music to ensue as a result.
